Vadnais visits Shadow UAV platoon in Latvia

Michigan Army National Guard Adjutant General, Maj. Gen. Gregory Vadnais, visited Soldiers of the Unmanned Aerial Surveillance platoon, B Company, Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 37th Brigade Combat Team at Lielvarde Air Base, Latvia on May 24, 2014.

Vadnais toured the aircraft hangar, logistics bay, launcher and aircraft control shelters. Vadnais spoke to Soldiers at their duty stations, informing them about upcoming training and changes occurring in the Michigan Army National Guard.

After concluding the tour, the UAS platoon held a formation and Vadnais administered the oath of enlistment to Spc. Zach Plotzke. Plotzke was congratulated by Vadnais, and given a coin for excellence to commemorate his decision to continue serving in the Michigan Army National Guard.

Prior to leaving, Vadnais said, “We appreciate all of your efforts, it’s not easy to step away from your lives to serve here in Latvia. I appreciate all you do and take great pride that your efforts will be briefed to both the National Guard Bureau and the Joint Chiefs of Staff.”

The UAS platoon is in Latvia preparing for exercises Namejs, Flaming Sword and Saber Strike 14.
